Warne's 2008 IPL masterstroke turns into Rs 450 crore windfall for family

Jaipur, Apr 4 (UNI) A visionary move by late Australian spin legend Shane Warne during the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League has turned into a staggering financial legacy, with his family set to receive Rs 450–460 crore from the sale of Rajasthan Royals.
What began as a bold and unconventional contract clause in 2008, granting Warne a 0.75 per cent ownership stake for every season he played, has now translated into a 3 per cent stake, following his four-year stint with the franchise.
The Royals, recently sold to a US-based consortium led by businessman Kal Somani for USD 1.63 billion (around Rs 15,290 crore), have seen their valuation skyrocket from just USD 67 million in 2008, when they were acquired by Emerging Media headed by Manoj Badale.
