Virtual arrest scam: Kerala Cyber Police recover Rs 1.06 crore

Kochi, Nov 7 (UNI) The Kerala Cyber Police have successfully recovered Rs 1.06 crore out of the Rs 1.30 crore fraudulently siphoned off from a senior citizen and doctor from Ernakulam through a sophisticated 'virtual arrest' online scam.
The incident unfolded when a group of fraudsters contacted the doctor, falsely claiming that his mobile number had been misused for criminal activities and that a case had been filed against him by the CBI, sources said.
Under this pretext, the scammers forced him to join a video call, where they deceived him into believing that he had been placed under 'virtual arrest.'
