Vijay joins anti-SIR chorus, blames EC for keeping everyone in the dark about its purpose

Chennai, Nov 15 (UNI) Joining the chorus against the Election Commission’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, actor-turned neta and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president on Saturday squarely blamed the poll panel for the reigning confusion and the lingering doubts in the mind of the electorate about their status as a voter.
“The right to vote is the most important rights guaranteed by the Indian Constitution for us in Tamil Nadu. As it concerns our lives, it is vital for anyone to be identified as alive,” he said in a video message, posted on his ‘X’ timeline, asking, “Will you believe that none in Tamil Nadu have any right to vote. Not only me, it is the predicament of lakhs of people.”
Citing the ongoing SIR as the main reason for the reigning confusion, he said, “The current SIR exercise poses the threat of disenfranchise all of us. As on this January, there were 6.36 crore voters in Tamil Nadu and none have the right to vote. The enumeration forms distributed by the BLOs and submitted by us have to be scrutinised before the final list is released. Till then, we don’t know, whether we are voters are not. We can’t be sure till the new list comes,” and questioned, “How is it possible during the SIR exercise for the enumeration forms to be distributed to each one of the 6.36 voters?”
