Video sparks outrage at Golden Temple sacred Sarovar

Chandigarh, Jan 16 (UNI) A short video allegedly showing a youth rinsing his mouth in the sacred 'sarovar' (pond) at the Golden Temple has triggered widespread outrage after it went viral on social media. The clip, shared online with the caption “Muslim Sher,” shows the youth sitting with his feet in the holy water and performing actions that many have termed disrespectful to Sikh religious traditions.
The 13-second reel reportedly depicts the youth scooping water into his mouth several times and, on one occasion, spitting it back into the sarovar before washing his face and gesturing towards the shrine. He is seen wearing a black jacket, jeans, and a black skull cap. Soon after the video surfaced, strong objections were raised by Sikh bodies and devotees.
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Secretary Kulwant Singh Mannan said the matter would be examined thoroughly. He stated that if the video is found to be genuine, an inquiry will also look into how such an act went unnoticed despite the presence of sewadars deployed in the complex.
