Veteran singer-actress Sulakshna Pandit last rites to be performed today

Mumbai, Nov 7 (UNI) The final rites of veteran playback singer and actress Sulakshna Pandit will be performed on Friday in Mumbai .
The Indian film and music fraternity is mourning the passing of the actress who died last evening after a prolonged illness. She was 71.
According to a statement issued by her family, the final rites will be performed this afternoon at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Mumbai.
Sulakshna Pandit rose to prominence in the 1970s and early 1980s, when she shared screen space with some of the biggest stars of the era — Jeetendra, Sanjeev Kumar, Rajesh Khanna, Vinod Khanna, Shashi Kapoor, and Shatrughan Sinha.
She made her acting debut opposite Sanjeev Kumar in the 1975 suspense-thriller ‘Uljhan’ and went on to earn critical acclaim for her portrayal of Lolita in Anil Ganguly’s Sankoch (1976), based on the classic novel Parineeta.
Her filmography includes popular titles such as Hera Pheri, Apnapan, Khandaan, Chehre Pe Chehra, Dharam Kanta, and Waqt Ki Deewar.
The sister of popular music composer duo Jatin-Lalit and yesteryear actor Vijayta Pandit, the late singer carved out her own niche with soulful renditions such as “Bekrar Dil Tu Gaye Ja” and “Somwar Ko Hum Mile Mangalwar Ko Nain,” both sung with the legendary Kishore Kumar.
Her collaborations with Mohammed Rafi produced several timeless melodies, including Pardesiya Tere Desh Mein, Sona Re Tujhe Kaise Miloon, Yeh Pyara Lage Tera Chehra, Jab Aati Hogi Yaad Meri, and Yeh Pyar Kiya Hai.
In 1976, Pandit was honoured with the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer for her song ‘Tu hi Sagar Tu hi Kinara’ from the film Sankalp.
Her filmography includes popular titles such as Hera Pheri, Apnapan, Khandaan, Chehre Pe Chehra, Dharam Kanta, and Waqt Ki Deewar.
