Varanasi water police ban standing selfies on moving boats

Varanasi, Feb 19 (UNI) These days, tourists and devotees aboard boats and canoes plying the Ganga in Kashi are often seen standing and taking selfies or making reels.
This often increases the risk of accidents. On Thursday, the Varanasi Water Police issued strict instructions to boatmen. Passengers will not be allowed to take selfies or photograph while standing on a moving boat.
Water Police Incharge Rajkishore Pandey stated that this advisory has been issued keeping in mind the safety of boat operations and the safety of the lives and property of pilgrims and tourists. Violations of these rules will result in action against boat operators and boat owners under Section 282 (negligent endangerment) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS), 2023, including a fine of up to 10,000 rupees.
