Vanlalvena pushes for Mizo handloom showroom in Delhi

Aizawl, Feb 9 (UNI) Mizoram’s lone Rajya Sabha MP, K. Vanlalvena, has reiterated the need for a dedicated handloom showroom in Delhi and a handicraft training institute in Mizoram to boost the state's traditional industries.
Speaking at the consultative meeting of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) in Delhi on Friday, Vanlalvena stressed that Mizos are known for their handloom expertise and high production output, yet lack a permanent space in the national capital to showcase their craftsmanship. He urged the Centre to set up a dedicated handloom showroom in Delhi to support Mizo artisans.
He also called for a handicraft training institute in Mizoram to refine local skills, particularly in bamboo-based crafts. Noting that nearly half of the state’s geographical area is covered with bamboo, he emphasised that harnessing this resource through proper training could significantly boost the state's economy.
