US to introduce new entry protocol requiring foreign nationals to submit to five years' of social media screening

Washington, Dec 10 (UNI) As part of its ongoing bid to clamp down on illegal immigration, all foreign nationals entering the US may soon be required to undergo mandatory social media screening and expanded biometric screenings by federal authorities, as the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seeks to overhaul its existing mechanisms to more effectively verify the identities of all those entering the country.
Under the proposal, all travellers, regardless of whether they need a visa, will be required to submit their social media account details within the last five years.
Not yet ratified into law, the protocol is open to 60-days of public debate before being codified and brought into effect on February 9, 2026, provided public opinion is found to be in favour of the proposal.
