US pounds Iran as Tehran abandons interim deal after deadly Jordan attack

Washington/Tehran, july 19 (UNI) The United States launched a fresh wave of strikes across Iran on Sunday after Tehran declared it was "no longer implementing" a month-old interim agreement, shattering hopes of containing the conflict as Washington vowed to "swiftly punish" Iran for an attack in Jordan that killed two American service members and left another missing.
The collapse of the fragile deal came as the war entered its eighth straight day of direct exchanges. Fresh U.S. strikes and Iranian missile attacks on American allies underscored the growing risk of a wider regional conflict, with key energy infrastructure, the Strait of Hormuz and military installations increasingly caught in the crossfire.
As U.S. forces carried out fresh attacks on Iranian military targets, several of Washington's regional allies came under renewed Iranian fire. Kuwait said an electricity generation and desalination plant was struck for a second consecutive day, while Jordan intercepted missiles headed toward the port city of Aqaba. Air defence systems were also activated in Bahrain.
