UoH scientists achieve breakthrough in nanofertilizer technology to boost yield & cut chemical use

Hyderabad, Nov 7 (UNI) In a major stride toward sustainable and resource-efficient agriculture, researchers from the University of Hyderabad (UoH) and collaborating institutions have developed a nanofertilizer technology that drastically reduces chemical fertiliser use while enhancing plant growth, yield, and quality of essential oils.
The study, published in the prestigious journal Industrial Crops & Products, demonstrates that the foliar application of nanosized macro- and micro-nutrients significantly improves the growth and essential oil quality of Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis), even when applied at just 20–30 per cent of the conventional fertiliser dosage.
This breakthrough is one of the key outcomes of a Department of Biotechnology (DBT) project led by Prof Appa Rao Podile from the Department of Plant Sciences, School of Life Sciences, and Prof (Dr.- Ing. V V S S Srikanth from the School of Engineering Sciences and Technology at UoH.
