UN efforts to rebuild Afghanistan blocked by western donors: Envoy

United Nations, Dec 13 (UNI) Any attempts by the United Nations to expand its mandate in Afghanistan to rebuild the country are being blocked by Western donors, and the lack of their support affects the Afghanistan humanitarian fund, Russian Ambassador to the UN Vassily Nebenzia said.
"We see that any attempts by UN personnel to make progress in this area are immediately blocked by a number of Western donors who categorically refuse any hint of an idea to rebuild, to provide assistance in rebuilding schools and hospitals, and to rebuild the necessary roads," Nebenzia said during the UN Security Council meeting on Afghanistan on Thursday.
The lack of Western support is also the reason why the humanitarian fund on Afghanistan remains underfunded, he added.
