UGC issues strict warning to colleges Over Ragging

Mumbai, July 10 (UNI) The University Grants Commission (UGC) today issued a stern warning to higher education institutions to remain vigilant against all forms of ragging — including psychological, physical, and social harassment — especially those taking place through digital platforms like WhatsApp.
The UGC stated that harassment of junior students by seniors through WhatsApp messages or group chats will also be considered a form of ragging. Institutions must regularly monitor whether any such WhatsApp groups are being used by students to target juniors and cause distress.
The UGC has instructed colleges and universities to investigate such activities thoroughly and respond immediately to any complaints received from students. Failure to act may result in the suspension of financial grants to the institution and further punitive measures.
