Uber launches Uber Direct powered by ONDC

Bangalore, Dec 10 (UNI) Uber India has taken a significant step in transforming business logistics in India with the launch of Uber Direct in Bengalur, powered by the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).
This marks a strategic pivot for the company from consumer-focused delivery services to enterprise-grade, B2B logistics solutions.
Unlike Uber Courier, which is booked directly by customers through the Uber app, Uber Direct functions as a behind-the-scenes logistics engine for businesses. Orders are placed by customers on a seller’s website or app, and Uber Direct ensures seamless delivery without the end-user interacting with Uber until the delivery partner arrives. This model offers businesses a standardized, plug-and-play solution for fast, reliable, and scalable deliveries, positioning Uber Direct as a vital tool for enterprise logistics.
The service has gone live in Bengaluru today, initially catering to grocery deliveries for brands like Zepto and KPN Farm Fresh. Within weeks, Uber Direct plans to expand to food deliveries for global brands including KFC, Burger King, Taco Bell, and Indian players like Rebel Foods. With Uber’s vast driver network, businesses can now tap into on-demand and scheduled delivery solutions, improving operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Prabhjeet Singh, President of Uber India and South Asia, emphasised the significance of Bengaluru for innovation. “Bengaluru is a playground for innovation, making it a natural choice to deepen our integration with ONDC and solve mobility and logistical needs for both people and businesses,” he said.
“Uber Direct brings alive our vision to help people ‘Go anywhere, Get anything,’ and we are excited to build this at scale with ONDC.”
Vibhor Jain, Acting CEO and COO of ONDC, highlighted how Uber Direct exemplifies the potential of interoperable digital commerce. “This launch provides a standardised logistics layer for businesses, enabling efficiency and fostering innovation across the network,” he said.
The move also demonstrates how Uber is leveraging India’s digital public infrastructure to create more connected commerce ecosystems. Businesses no longer need to develop their own logistics frameworks; Uber Direct, powered by ONDC, can seamlessly integrate with their existing platforms, offering real-time tracking, reliable delivery timelines, and extensive coverage.
As the first city to host Uber Direct on ONDC rails, Bengaluru is likely to witness a transformation in B2B logistics operations. From grocery chains to food delivery networks, enterprises now have access to a scalable and flexible logistics partner that operates on demand or scheduled models. Analysts suggest that this model could reshape urban logistics by reducing delivery delays, lowering costs, and enabling smaller businesses to compete with larger players.
Uber’s expansion into B2B logistics is part of its broader strategy to diversify services beyond ride-hailing. By integrating with ONDC, Uber Direct not only provides businesses with efficient delivery solutions but also strengthens India’s digital commerce ecosystem, creating new opportunities for innovation and collaboration.
With plans to roll out Uber Direct in additional cities and extend its food delivery services, Uber India is poised to redefine enterprise logistics while continuing to enhance mobility solutions for millions of users across the country.
