Uber launches intercity bus ticketing in India

Bengaluru, Mar 7 (UNI) Ride-hailing major Uber has launched intercity bus ticketing on its app in India, making the country the first global market to roll out the new feature.
The offering allows riders to discover, plan and book long-distance bus journeys directly through the Uber platform, expanding the company's intercity travel portfolio. The service has been introduced in partnership with AbhiBus, the bus ticketing arm of travel platform Ixigo.
With the integration, riders across India can now search for available intercity bus services, select seats and complete bookings within the Uber app itself.
As part of an introductory offer, users can avail a 25 per cent discount of up to Rs 200 on their first Uber Intercity Bus booking and a 10 per cent discount of up to Rs 100 on their next three bookings.
Speaking at the launch, Praveen Neppalli Naga, Chief Technology Officer at Uber, said India remains one of the company's key innovation hubs globally, with local teams building technologies that drive Uber's worldwide growth. He said the launch reflects how products incubated in India are helping shape Uber's global roadmap while expanding travel choices for riders.
Prabhjeet Singh, President of Uber India and South Asia, said intercity travel in India is undergoing a transformation due to improved highways and stronger road connectivity, making long-distance road travel more accessible. He noted that the shift presents a significant opportunity for digital platforms to simplify how travellers plan and experience intercity journeys.
Rohit Sharma, Chief Operating Officer of AbhiBus, said the partnership combines AbhiBus's extensive bus supply network and expertise in ticketing with Uber's large user base and mobility platform trusted by millions of Indians.
The intercity bus ticketing feature also includes safety measures such as real-time location sharing, a 24x7 safety helpline and dedicated trip support for passengers.
The move builds on Uber's expanding intercity mobility services in India. The company's Intercity car service currently connects more than 3,000 city-to-city routes across the country. Last year, Uber also introduced a limited-period Intercity Motorhomes service to provide premium long-distance travel options.
With the latest addition, Uber's intercity portfolio now includes hatchbacks, sedans, multi-utility vehicles and buses, as the company seeks to tap into India's growing demand for long-distance travel through a unified digital platform.
