Two BJP candidates file nominations for Rajya Sabha elections

Patna, May 31 (UNI) Two BJP candidates Satish Chandra Dubey and Shambhu Sharan Patel on Tuesday filed their nomination papers for election to five seats of Rajya Sabha from Bihar.
Both Dubey and Patel filed their nomination papers in presence of Rural Development Minister Shrawan Kumar of JD(U) and Panchayati Raj Minister Samrat Chaudhary of BJP. Other leaders of both BJP and JD(U) were also present on the occasion.
BJP candidates filed their nomination papers on the last day of filing nominations on Tuesday. They were scheduled to file nominations along with JD(U) candidate Khiru Mahto on Monday but failed to do so as their related documents were not prepared.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Ministers Tarkishore Prasad, Renu Devi, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai, JD(U) president Rajeev Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh and Chairman of the parliamentary board of JD(U) Upendra Kushwaha were present when JD(U) candidate Khiru Mahto had filed his nomination paper on Monday.
Dubey while interacting with media persons after filling of nomination papers, said that it was a great responsibility for him which he would try to discharge with sincerity and dedication.
Similarly, Patel said that he had got emotional when learnt about getting a party ticket for Rajya Sabha and wept for half an hour. He had never imagined that he would get the opportunity to go to Rajya Sabha at such young age in his life, he remarked.
Scrutiny of nominations would be conducted on June 1. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is June 3. Polling is scheduled to be held on June 10.
As per the numerical strength of various parties in the Assembly, two candidates each of BJP and RJD and one candidate of JD (U) can get elected for Rajya Sabha. Accordingly, both BJP and JD (U) have fielded two candidates each while JD(U) has fielded one candidate.
RJD has fielded Misa Bharti and Faiyaz Ahmad for Rajya Sabha election. All the five candidates who filed nominations are set to be declared elected unopposed.
