Trump-Xi Summit: US sees opening for Chinese energy deals

Arti Bali,
Beijing, May 14 (UNI) The leaders of the two biggest economies, US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping met face-to-face in Beijing on Thursday for their first summit in nine years, and decided to push trade forward, while Chinese leader warned that the Taiwan question remains the most critical issue, with the potential to create clashes and even conflict between them. However, both leaders also agreed on the importance of a nuclear-free Iran and ensuring a free and open Strait of Hormuz.
The most significant aspect is that the meeting between the leaders of the two superpowers happened after the US had already contributed to global uncertainty by striking Iran and creating economic turmoil. The response from Iran had a devastating impact, eroding energy reserves of countries and heavily denting economic progress, leading instead to inflation and, in some cases, fears of recession.
