Trump’s idea to rename football not off base, but impossible

Washington, Dec 13 (UNI) US President Donald Trump’s idea to rename American football and the National Football League (NFL) because of the “conflict” with soccer is not off base, but it would be impossible to do it, Ilia Jarostchuk, a former NFL player of Russian descent, told Sputnik.
During the FIFA World Cup draw ceremony in Washington on Friday, Trump suggested that soccer should be called football in the US, adding that the country should "come up with another name for the NFL" as it "really doesn't make sense when you think about it."
“Trump’s point about calling a game football because the entire rest of the world calls it football, it's not completely off base. However, it's going to be very difficult to rename a long-standing tradition in the NFL as football, because it's so well-rooted in this country,” Jarostchuk said.
