Tripura HC ordered to constitute SIT to investigate against police action

Agartala, May 15 (UNI) The High Court of Tripura has ordered a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into allegations of assault, corruption, police excesses, and biased investigation against the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and police personnel.
This decision came from a Division Bench consisting of Chief Justice M S Ramachandra Rao and Justice Biswajit Palit, following a petition filed by Ratna Roy against the State of Tripura and others. The Court specified that the SIT will comprise officials from Tripura Police Crime Branch, appointed by the Director General of Police, and will operate under the supervision of an officer holding the rank of Inspector General.
The Court has directed that no police officer from the West Tripura district will be involved in the investigation. CCTV footage seized by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, West Tripura, will be handed over to the supervising IG officer with proper acknowledgment as per the Court's order.
