Tripura FM seeks special grant for infra in tribal areas

Agartala, July 8 (UNI) Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, attending the meeting of the 16th Finance Commission (FC) in Delhi yesterday, demanded a special grant for the creation of urgent infrastructure in Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), allocation of grants for the development of the region.
The FC convened the meeting to discuss the special fiscal requirements of the seven smaller Northeastern states, including Tripura, for inclusion in the upcoming recommendations for gap grant of 16th FC. The Commission is scheduled to submit its report by October this year.
Singha Roy made a case for Tripura’s unique developmental needs in the meeting and emphasized the urgent infrastructure requirements of the state. Highlighting persistent infrastructure gaps, especially frequent disruptions in road and railway networks during the monsoon, he called for targeted infrastructure funding to bridge these critical deficiencies.

Odisha worker killed in drone attack in Russia; mortal remains brought home

Bhubaneswar, May 21 (UNI) The mortal remains of an Odia youth who was killed in a reported drone attack in Russia amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict were brought back to Odisha on Thursday following coordinated efforts by the Centre and the state government, officials said.
The deceased, A. Ramaya, hailed from Madhabandha village in Ganjam district and had been employed with a company in Moscow, Russia.
