Tripura court awarded 13 years RI for raping minor

Agartala, Feb 8 (UNI) The Additional District and Session Court of Sepahijala District on Saturday sentenced one Rajesh Das, a resident of Nehal Chandra Nagar in Bishalgarh, to 13 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl in 2019.
The investigation revealed that Rajesh Das took advantage of the loneliness of a minor girl and raped her at home. The minor girl gave birth to a baby girl in April 2020. Subsequently, the victim's mother complained to Rajesh at Bishalgarh Women's Police Station.
Police said during the case trial, the court examined testimonies from 22 witnesses.
Rajesh Das was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 6 of the POCSO Act and an additional one-year imprisonment in default of payment of a Rs 1 lakh fine.
The court sentenced an additional three years of imprisonment under different sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), with an extra six months of imprisonment in default of payment of a fine of Rs 5,000.
