Tripura budget prioritised capital expenditure and education: CM

Agartala, Mar 22 (UNI) Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Saturday stated that the budget tabled on Friday has given priority to capital expenditure for infrastructure development, including modern buildings, roads, and other means of connectivity to attract investment in the state.
Hailing the proposed budget growth-orientated and directed to PM’s Viksit Bharat vision, Dr Saha said, Tripura’s GSDP was recorded 10.4% in 2024-25 financial years against the national GDP of 9.7% and projected GSDP for coming year has been set at 10.5% when country’s GDP is expected to touch 10.1% mark.
“The allocation for capital expenditure for the coming year has been projected at Rs 1,269.46 Cr in 2025-26 compared to the 2024-25 FY, and this year it has been targeted to Rs 7903.26 Cr. Also, the overall size of the budget has increased to Rs 32,423 Cr,” CM mentioned, adding that allocation for capital expenditure is one of the important indicators of economic growth, as the expenditure will boost the market by injecting money.
He further stated that the budget highlighted six key priorities: quality infrastructure, skill development & capacity building, sustainable development, ease of doing business, use of information technology and reforms, and citizen-centric governance.
While skill development and IT expansion are targeted to boost employability, good governance and ease of doing business are keys to keeping the growth momentum uninterrupted and bringing investment. Dr Saha said and added, “The state has the highest allocation for education at Rs 6166 Cr, followed by Public Works (R&B, DW&S, WR) at Rs 3707 Cr.
