Tribals must unite to protect agency areas from corporate exploitation: Minister Seethakka

Hyderabad, March 11 (UNI) Telangana Panchayati Raj Minister Seethakka on Wednesday called upon the Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities to unite to safeguard their lands and forest resources, alleging that corporate forces were targeting tribal agency areas in the name of mining.
Addressing a large-scale meeting of Adivasi Congress workers at Gandhi Bhavan, she said corporates were attempting to exploit forest wealth and hill resources and urged tribal communities to collectively resist such attempts.
Seethakka said the Indian National Congress had historically stood by the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and ensured constitutional protections for them. She noted that the party introduced provisions such as the Fifth Schedule, Sixth Schedule and the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act (PESA) to safeguard the rights of tribal communities.
