Tourist arrivals to Ladakh surge by over 121% in May 2026: LG

Srinagar, June 6 (UNI) Ladakh has recorded a massive rise in tourist arrivals in 2026, with Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh stating that the union Territory witnessed a historic surge in visitors.
Sharing the figures on X, the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena said May 2026 emerged as a landmark month for tourism in UT, registering an unprecedented 121.20 percent growth in tourist arrivals.
According to the data shared, Ladakh received 72,834 tourists in May 2026 compared to 32,927 tourists during the same month in 2025.
The LG further said that between January and May 2026, Ladakh welcomed 1,17,546 tourists as against 81,827 tourists recorded during the corresponding period last year, reflecting a 43.65 percent year-on-year increase.
He attributed the sharp rise in tourist footfall to the appeal made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to promote domestic tourism, along with efforts aimed at strengthening infrastructure, improving connectivity and diversifying tourism experiences in the region.
The LG said the increase in arrivals has brought renewed optimism and confidence among tourism stakeholders in Ladakh.
Expressing gratitude to visitors, he thanked tourists for choosing Ladakh and invited people from across the country to experience the region’s natural beauty, adventure tourism, culture, spirituality, peaceful atmosphere and clean air.
