Torrential rains cause widespread disruption in Latur district

Latur, Sep 14 (UNI) Heavy rainfall has caused significant disruption across Latur city and district, with Udgir and Nilanga talukas experiencing particularly severe downpours. The rain, which began lightly initially, intensified into torrential rainfall that continued until late at night, leading to water accumulation in low-lying areas of the city.
The sudden downpour resulted in overflowing rivers and drains throughout the affected areas, though authorities have confirmed no loss of life occurred anywhere in the district. The excessive rainfall caused drainage systems to overflow across urban areas, with water accumulating in several low-lying locations within Latur city.
While the rainfall is expected to improve water storage levels in small and medium irrigation projects across the district, it has simultaneously caused substantial agricultural damage. The heavy rains have particularly affected urad and mung bean crops that were nearing harvest time, resulting in significant losses for local farmers.
