TN's Idol wing CID seizes antique ‘Lord Perumal’ idol worth Rs 2 Cr, 7 held

Thanjavur, Aug 10 (UNI) The Idol Wing CID (IWCID) of the Tamil Nadu police seized an antique metal idol of ''Lord Perumal'', dating back to Chola period, valued at Rs two crore in the International market and arrested seven persons for attempting to sell it to abroad at Melathiruvizhapatti on the Thanjavur-Tiruchirapalli national highway late on Friday.
Police sources said here on Saturday that based on a tip off, an IWCID team conducted a vehicle check and intercepted a car and two motorcycles accompanying it on suspicion.
During the inspection of the car, the IWCID officials found five occupants in the vehicle possessing the Perumal idol measuring two-and-half feet.
