TN: Opposition welcomes SC-monitored CBI probe into Karur stampede

Chennai, Oct 13 (UNI) Opposition parties in Tamil Nadu, including the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), the AIADMK, and the BJP, have welcomed the Supreme Court's order for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the fatal stampede in Karur on September 27. The investigation will be monitored by a panel headed by a retired apex court judge.
Following the decision to transfer the case to the CBI, the apex court also kept under suspension both the one-man judicial enquiry commission constituted by the DMK government and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) ordered by a single judge of the Madras High Court on October 3.
The opposition chorus is that the CBI probe will bring out the truth regarding the tragedy that occurred at the rally of actor and TVK president Vijay.
