TN: Fire breaks out at women hostel, 2 killed

Madurai (Tamil Nadu) Sep 12 (UNI) Two women teachers suffocated to death and three others hospitalised with burn injuries, after a fire broke out in an unregistered working women’s hostel at Katrapalayam locality near the busy Periyar Bus Stand here early on Thursday.
Police said the fire was reported around 0450 hours, after a mini refrigerator exploded in one of the rooms at Visaka Women’s Hostel located at the first floor of a decades-old building and within about half an hour the fire and thick black smoke engulfed the building.
The hostel has been functioning at the first and second floors of the two-story building.
