Three children among 15 died in stampede at New Delhi Railway Station

New Delhi, Feb 15 (UNI) At least 15 passengers, including three children, were killed and many more injured in a stampede at the New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday evening, an official said.
However, there is no official confirmation from the Railway Ministry on the figure of casualties in the incident that occurred at around 9:55 pm due to heavy rush.
The Ministry has also ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident and announced to run four special trains for Prayagraj Maha Kumbh.
Reports suggested that overcrowding due to train services for the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj triggered chaos on platform numbers 14 and 15, which led to the situation.
As soon as the information of the incident was received, Railway Protection Force and Delhi Police reached the spot and immediately took the injured to the hospital.
Railway Minister Ashiwin Vashnav said after the Delhi Police and RPF reached the scene of crush, the situation is now under control at New Delhi railway station.
"Injured were taken to hospital. Special trains are being run to evacuate sudden rush," he wrote on X.
He also said special trains have been arranged to evacuate this unprecedented sudden rush at New Delhi station.
The rush has now reduced.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has expressed grief over the death of passengers at new Delhi and termed
incident as "devastating".
" I am extremely pained by the loss of lives due to stampede on Railway platform. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the bereaved families. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured," he added.
