Thousands join ‘Tiranga rally’ in Srinagar

Srinagar, Aug 12 (UNI) Thousands of people joined the ‘Tiranga rally’ led by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in Srinagar on Monday.
“May our beloved and victorious Tricolor fly high in the world,” the Lt Governor said.
“Bring home the National Flag and hoist it with pride and honour. Be a part of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign,” Sinha told the citizens.
Thousands of people including men and women carrying national tricolour participated in the rally which was taken out from the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) to the Botanical garden on the banks of Dal Lake, officials said.
Many government dignitaries, VIPs and officials also participated in the rally that commenced at 5 am in the morning from the SKICC.
The ‘Tiranga’ rally is a part of the government’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign to encourage people to bring the flag to home and hoist it to mark India’s Independence.
On the occasion, the Lt Governor said, “Har Ghar Tiranga campaign in J&K has grown to be a people’s movement”.
Sinha said the campaign is an embodiment of our collective commitment to nation-building and creates personal connection with the Tiranga.
The Lt Governor expressed gratitude to the Citizens for playing a critical role in making Tiranga Yatra a grand success.
He called upon the people to participate in Tiranga Rallies, Tiranga Concerts, Tiranga Canvas, Tiranga Pledge, Tiranga Selfies and Tiranga Mela.
The Lt Governor also released a Monograph dedicated to the martyrs and bravehearts of Jammu Kashmir and launched the Tiranga signature campaign.
Tiranga rallies were also taken out in several districts of the union territory during the past one week ahead of the Independence celebrations in Jammu and Kashmir.
A similar rally was also taken out in the Shikara’s and boats in iconic Dal Lake.
The traffic department had issued advisory for the commuters and had established specific route plans for the smooth conduct of the rally in Srinagar.

Srinagar, June 13 (UNI) Kashmir’s chief cleric and Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday said the narrative of normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370 is a “myth.”

He claimed that “oppressive measures” remain firmly in place and there is “no political or administrative space available to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”

Addressing the Friday congregational prayers at historic Jamia Masjid in old Srinagar Mirwaiz asked Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, who is the in charge of the law and order in J&K, as to why the Eid-ul-Adha prayers were not allowed at the Eidgah ground and Jamia Masjid in Srinagar. The decision to disallow Eid prayers at Jamia had triggered a backlash from many, including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
