Thousands bid farewell to son of the soil, Bharathiraja buried at his native place with full state honours

Chennai, June 11 (UNI) Thousands of people, including several prominent film personalities, bade a tearful adieu to the son of the soil as the mortal remains of veteran filmmaker Bharathiraja, who passed away here yesterday morning, was laid to rest with full state honours at his farm house in his native Theni district of Tamil Nadu on Thursday afternoon.
A pall of gloom descended as the entire village and the surrounding villages and localities mourned the passing away of the legendry director, who had made several landmark films.
Soon after his death, Chief Minister Vijay, leaders of various political parties, film personalities and people from various spectrum paid their last respects at his Neelankarai residence in Chennai where it was kept for public homage. Later, his body was taken to his birth place of Theni district last night.
