Thirty-four marine fishers nabbed from Odisha’s Gahirmatha turtle habitat

Bhubaneshwar, Dec 7 (UNI) The Forest officials have arrested 34 marine fishermen and seized two sea-worthy fishing trawls from the sea water of the Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary in Kendrapara district of Odisha on the charges of illegally fishing within the turtle congregation zone in the last 48 hours, an official said today.
The fishing trawls, used by the intruders for fishing along the prohibited sanctuary area, were seized by the forest patrol teams.
The intruders who were arrested are the marine fishermen of Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts. They were later remanded to judicial custody, said Assistant Conservator of Forest, Manas Das on Sunday.
