Telangana showcases EV charging success story at national conference in Bengaluru

Bangaluru/Hyderabad, May 12 (UNI) Telangana showcased its rapid progress in electric vehicle adoption and EV charging infrastructure at the National Conference on “Enabling Nationwide EV Charging Infrastructure under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme” held in Bengaluru on Tuesday.
The conference, organised at Hotel Taj Yeshwantpur, brought together representatives from Central ministries, state governments, public sector enterprises, EV manufacturers and charging infrastructure providers to discuss expansion of Electric Vehicle Public Charging Stations (EVPCS) across the country.
Navin Mittal presented Telangana’s EV success story and highlighted the role of TGREDCO, the state nodal agency for EV charging infrastructure implementation.
According to officials, Telangana has registered more than 2.8 lakh electric vehicles so far, including 91,572 new EV registrations during FY 2025-26. Around five percent of all new vehicle registrations in the state are now electric vehicles, while the EV market value touched Rs 6,297 crore during the financial year.
The state currently operates 325 electric buses from six city depots and has initiated retrofitment of 240 diesel buses. Telangana is also implementing a major e-bus programme targeting 2,800 electric buses in Hyderabad by 2027.
Officials said Telangana presently has 1,063 operational EV charging stations, including around 600 in Hyderabad. TGREDCO alone operates nearly 200 public charging stations within GHMC limits and plans to establish additional charging stations at 116 locations under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme with a sanctioned amount of Rs 10.24 crore under Phase-I.
The state government has also set targets to establish 6,000 EV charging and battery swapping stations by 2030 and 12,000 by 2035. Telangana is offering 100 percent exemption on road tax and registration fees for EVs to encourage adoption.
The conference also witnessed the launch of the National Unified EV Charging App aimed at improving accessibility and user experience for EV owners across the country.
