Telangana Police, Ambedkar Open University sign MoU to offer graduation degree to constables

Hyderabad, Aug 14 (UNI) In a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, the Telangana Police Department has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dr B R Ambedkar Open University, Hyderabad, to enable non-graduate police personnel to complete their graduation while in service.
Currently, the minimum qualification for recruitment as a Police Constable is Intermediate, whereas earlier it was 10th Class. This move will allow those who joined with the previous qualification to pursue higher education and obtain a degree.
Director General of Police Dr Jitender, said more than 30,000 police personnel in the state do not have a graduation degree, and the new programme will help them achieve it within the next five to six years. “Higher education will boost their self-respect and confidence. We are proud that Telangana Police is the first in the country to introduce such a measure,” he said.
