Telangana govt to distribute jowar, maize through ration shops at subsidised rates: Dy CM Bhatti

Hyderabad, May 6 (UNI) Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Wednesday said the Telangana government has decided to procure maize and jowar from farmers at Minimum Support Price (MSP) and distribute the grains to poor people through ration shops at subsidised rates.
In a statement, the Deputy Chief Minister said the government had taken the decision with the twin objectives of protecting farmers from losses and ensuring nutritious food reaches economically weaker sections.
Instead of auctioning the procured grains in the open market, where middlemen often make profits, the government is considering distributing the produce directly through the Civil Supplies Department at prices lower than prevailing market rates, he said.
