Hyderabad, Mar 15 (UNI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday challenged former Chief Minister and BRS Chief K Chandrashekar Rao to discuss the Krishna water dispute in the Assembly.
Replying to the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address, the Chief Minister criticised KCR for his poor attendance in the house, noting that despite receiving a salary of Rs 54.84 lakh as an MLA, KCR has attended only two Assembly sessions so far.
Revanth Reddy recalled that KCR once claimed he would transform Rayalaseema into a prosperous "border of gems" after enjoying prawn soup at actress Roja's house in AP.
He criticised the BRS Chief for betraying the people of Palamuru, who had supported him politically.
He claimed that Telangana's interests were compromised regarding Krishna water rights, blaming the former Chief Minister for increasing the capacity of the Pothireddypadu head regulator while serving as a Union Minister.
Reddy further alleged that water intended for Jurala was diverted through Srisailam backwaters for the sake of commissions. He also claimed that no major project work was undertaken during KCR’s tenure, and criticised BRS leaders for showing insensitivity regarding the recent SLBC tunnel accident.
The CM said BRS leaders were focused on political theatrics rather than the state's future.
Responding to criticism from KTR and Harish Rao for his (CM) remarks that Chandrashekar Rao would be sent to the mortuary from the stretcher he was already sent, he wished KCR a long life.
The Chief Minister accused the previous BRS government of disregarding democratic values, citing the 2022 budget session, which started without a Governor’s speech. He condemned the BRS for disrespecting the woman Governor and reiterated that the Congress government is committed to upholding constitutional principles.
While Revanth Reddy was addressing the Assembly, BRS MLAs staged a walkout from the house in protest against his comments on KCR, declaring they would not listen to remarks they deemed inappropriate.
Reacting to the BRS walkout, Revanth Reddy warned that if BRS leaders continued this behaviour, they would face political oblivion in the upcoming elections.
He highlighted the Congress government's achievements, stating that over Rs 20,000 crore farm loans had been waived in the first year. He assured that all farmers would receive the 'Rythu Bharosa' benefit by March 31, and landless agricultural labourers would be provided support through 'Indiramma's Aathmeeya Bharosa.'
The CM announced that the government will procure all grains from farmers, adding that poor farmers were given a bonus of Rs 500 per quintal.
Reddy criticised the previous government for siding with millers and claimed that despite water scarcity in the Kaleshwaram project, Telangana achieved record paddy yields.
On Telangana’s rights, Revanth vowed to visit Delhi not just 30 times, but 300 times if necessary, to secure the state’s rightful funds. He stressed that his efforts were for Telangana's welfare and questioned the BRS for criticising his discussion with the Prime Minister.
The Chief Minister stated that despite his efforts, Telangana continues to face discrimination from the Centre, emphasising his commitment to fighting for the state's interests.
