Tejasvi Surya flags 82 pc Namma Metro fare hike

Bengaluru, Oct 9 (UNI) BJP MP Tejasvi Surya has raised serious concerns over the proposed Namma Metro fare revision, warning that commuters could face increases of up to 82% on frequently used routes, a move he described as unreasonable and financially burdensome for daily travellers.
In a detailed letter addressed to BMRCL Managing Director Dr J Ravishankar, Surya highlighted multiple anomalies in the 1st Fare Fixation Committee report, which recommended a steep overall fare hike of 105%. The report, originally dated December 16, 2024, was made publicly available on September 11, 2025, following intervention by the Karnataka High Court.
Surya’s examination revealed significant mathematical discrepancies in staff costs, energy costs, and maintenance and administrative expenses. Highlighting a key error, the MP pointed out that the maintenance and administration cost had been wrongly represented as a 366% increase, whereas calculations based on audited accounts indicate the actual rise is only 118.5%. He explained that this miscalculation stemmed from an incorrect interpretation of operating expenses from 2017, which ultimately inflated the overall proposed fare increase to 105.15%.
