TADKA on JioHotstar crosses 100 million users

Bengaluru, June 13 (UNI) In a major milestone for India’s evolving digital entertainment landscape, TADKA on JioHotstar has surpassed 100 million users, signaling the mainstream rise of premium micro-content as a distinct entertainment category within the country’s streaming ecosystem.
The platform’s performance reflects a broader shift in audience behaviour, with viewers increasingly embracing mobile-native, short-format storytelling alongside traditional long-form content. Since its launch, TADKA has recorded a five-fold increase in daily watch time per viewer, indicating not just rapid adoption but also sustained engagement across diverse user segments.
Audience trends underline the format’s wide appeal. More than 42 per cent of TADKA’s user base is under the age of 24, highlighting strong traction among younger demographics. At the same time, viewership is evenly distributed across urban centres, with metro cities and Tier 2 markets each contributing close to 40 per cent of total watch time. This balance reflects the growing demand for accessible, mobile-first storytelling that integrates seamlessly into daily entertainment routines.
The rise of micro-content is also reshaping India’s production landscape. As demand increases, content creation has expanded beyond traditional industry hubs, with shoots and production activity now spanning cities including Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, Indore, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai. This geographic diversification has contributed to a wider variety of narratives, perspectives and cultural contexts, strengthening the ecosystem for short-form storytelling.
Launched within the JioHotstar streaming platform, TADKA now features over 100 original titles. The service is designed around vertical, episodic formats ranging between 30 and 60 seconds, built specifically for mobile consumption. Its storytelling spans genres such as romance, drama, thriller, comedy, sports and youth-centric narratives, with content available in multiple Indian languages including Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, among others.
Commenting on the milestone, Ambuj Kashyap, Executive Vice President for Micro Content at JioStar, said the achievement represents a structural shift in streaming consumption patterns. He noted that audiences are increasingly engaging with content across more moments of the day, creating new opportunities for storytelling formats that are shorter, more dynamic and mobile-first in nature. He added that the scale and engagement of TADKA validate micro-content as a sustainable entertainment category with significant creative and commercial potential.
The company said TADKA aligns with its broader strategy of building product-led entertainment experiences that respond to changing user behaviour. With innovations spanning interactive commerce, second-screen engagement and personalised discovery tools, JioHotstar continues to expand the ways in which audiences interact with digital storytelling, positioning micro-content as a key pillar of its future growth strategy.
