Syrians vote for new parliament

Damascus, July 15 (UNI) Syrians queued at polling stations on Monday to cast their votes in the parliamentary elections, hoping for changes that could help the country overcome its current difficulties.
The Supreme Judicial Committee for Elections affirmed the initiation of voting across the government-controlled regions of Syria, with 8,151 polling centres opening at 7:00 a.m. (0400 GMT) local time. The election witnessed 1,516 candidates competing for 250 seats in the People's Assembly.
Syria's parliamentary elections take place every four years, with the People's Assembly serving as the country's legislative organ.
