Syiem appointed as chairperson of MSCW

Shillong, June 19 (UNI) Professor Iamonlang M. Syiem has been appointed as the new chief of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW).
Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh said Syiem, the former Chairperson of the Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, will take over as Chairperson of MSCW after the cabinet approves her name.
Syiem, a retired associate professor and former head of the department of sociology at St. Edmunds’ College, was among the seven applicants for the post.

Kolkata, May 16 (UNI) The Calcutta High Court, hearing pleas on the Murshidabad violence following the Waqf Amendment Act protests, has said the Central armed forces will stay in troubled-torn Shamshergunj and Dhulian for now until further orders and advised the West Bengal government to recruit more police personnel.
