Sustainable energy infrastructure key to India's green growth journey

New Delhi, June 6 (UNI) As India accelerates its transition towards a low-carbon economy, the development of sustainable energy infrastructure will be critical in ensuring energy security, supporting industrial growth, and reducing environmental impact, according to industry experts.
On the occasion of World Environment Day 2026, Surbhi Puri, Director of Green Power International Pvt. Ltd., emphasized that India's green transition is fundamentally an infrastructure transformation that will shape how the country produces, consumes, and secures energy in the coming decades.
She noted that with energy demand expected to rise significantly as India pursues its goal of becoming a developed nation, investments in clean energy infrastructure are becoming increasingly important. These include renewable power generation, modern transmission networks, energy storage systems, green hydrogen projects, and electric mobility infrastructure.
According to Puri, expanding sustainable energy systems will not only help provide reliable and affordable energy access but also create substantial economic opportunities. She said that strong policy support, public-private partnerships, and long-term investments in clean energy infrastructure can position India as both a major consumer and a global leader in sustainable energy solutions.
Highlighting the significance of World Environment Day, she said the occasion serves as a reminder that achieving a greener future requires not only ambitious climate and sustainability goals but also clear implementation strategies and robust infrastructure development.
"The transition to cleaner energy sources is no longer just an environmental necessity; it is also an economic imperative that will influence India's long-term growth trajectory," she added.
As countries worldwide intensify efforts to combat climate change, India's focus on building sustainable energy infrastructure is expected to play a pivotal role in driving economic development while advancing environmental sustainability.
