Maha: BJP candidate Bawankule leads in the first round

Nagpur, Dec 14(UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) candidate Chandrashekhar Bawankule has taken the lead in the first round of vote counting for the biennial elections for the MLC, so far securing 362 first preference votes out of total votes of 560. Bawankule, even before the official announcement is to be made, has emerged victorious. Congress, which had changed its candidate at the last minute, polled 186 first preference votes. The polling for biennial elections for MLC from Nagpur Local Authority constituency was held on December 10 for which counting is in progress currently. It is pertinent to mention here that Bawankule, who is a former Maharashtra energy minister, was denied a ticket by the BJP in the 2019 Assembly polls from his stronghold of Kamptee. UNI PK ACL1112
