Storm lashes Gangtok; one dead, roads blocked

Gangtok, March 15 (UNI) Sudden heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds lashed this capital town and adjoining areas of Sikkim on Sunday evening, leaving one person dead, damaging houses, and disrupting traffic at multiple locations.
An elderly woman, identified as Kala Devi Chettri (aged around 55), a resident of Rakdong Kafer, died after being struck on the head by a falling tree. She is survived by a son and a daughter.
Several trees were uprooted, causing road blockages along the Ranipool–Gangtok highway, including near Mayfair, Deorali, ICAR, Chota Singtam, Enchey Gompa, and the Secretariat Gate. Some vehicles were reportedly damaged. A house at Samdur (Lupon) and the roofs of four houses at Nandok Maley Goan were also damaged.

Imphal/Bishnupur, Apr 14 (UNI) A major drug seizure at Tulihal Airport today set off a chain of events that culminated in fresh violence in Manipur’s Bishnupur district, where at least 18 people, including five women, were seriously injured in firing during clashes between security forces and a mob.
