Stock markets end high for third day led by IT, FMCG

New Delhi, Jun 16 (UNI) Indian stock markets on Tuesday ended higher for the third consecutive session. The indices were supported by easing geopolitical tensions following the US-Iran agreement. Buying interest was also seen in IT, FMCG, realty and select heavyweight stocks.
The top gainers on Nifty were HCL Technologies after the IT major announced its decision to acquire a 10.5% stake in domestic generative AI startup Sarvam AI. Further, Tata Consumer Products rose 2.7 per cent, NTPC, Bajaj Finserv and HUL were among other key gainers.
On the losing end were Hindalco, JSW Steel, HDFC Life, Eicher Motors and Maruti Suzuki among others. Investor earn Rs 1.76 lakh crore as the market cap of all BSE-listed firms rose to Rs 472.25 lakh crore from Rs 470.49 lakh crore. Among the sectors, IT sector emerged as the top performer. Realty, Media, FMCG, Construction, and Oil & Gas indices also closed in positive territory. Metal stocks witnessed significant selling pressure ending 1.55 per cent lower. Auto, Pharma, Healthcare, PSU Banks, Cement, and Midcap Healthcare indices also closed marginally lower.
Nearly 83 stocks hit fresh 52-week highs. These included Bandhan Bank, Aeroflex Industries, Deccan Gold Mines, Federal Bank, IFCI, Rategain, and YES Bank. Stocks that slipped to their 52-week lows included Bayer Cropscience, Parsvnath Developers, and Vedanta Power. Shares of major pharmaceutical companies traded in the red.
Cipla fell 0.65 pc, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals declined 0.56pc, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories slipped 0.36pc and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries down 0.25pc. Rupee traded slightly stronger with gains of around 0.15pc or 11 paise near 94.55, supported by continued optimism surrounding the ongoing US-Iran peace negotiations.
