Stock market extends gains, Sensex up by 485.35 points

New Delhi, Feb 9 (UNI) Indian stock market today extended gains from the previous session, with the BSE Sensex gaining by 485.35 points or 0.58 per cent to close positive at 84,065.75 and the NSE Nifty climbing by 173.60 points or 0.68 pc to 25,867.30, supported by positive global cues and broad-based buying across sectors.
Among the sectors, all the indices ended in the green. Media, consumer durables, realty, PSU Bank, pharma, healthcare, metal were up in a range of 1-3 percent.
On Nifty, the top gainers were State Bank of India, Shriram Finance, Titan, Dr Reddy's Laboratories and Grasim Industries.
Whereas, the top losers on Nifty were Max Healthcare, Power Grid Corporation, ITC, ONGC and NTPC.
BSE 150 MidCap Index jumped 1.66 pc, while the BSE 250 SmallCap Index surged 2.45 pc.
The overall market capitalisation of BSE-listed firms jumped to Rs 473 lakh crore from Rs 467 lakh crore in the previous session.
The advance-decline ratio remained in favour of advancers as over 3,100 stocks advanced while over 1,200 declined on the BSE.
Around 148 stocks hit their 52-week highs, while 100 stocks that hit their 52-week lows in intraday trade on the BSE.
Those on the highs were SBI, Tata Steel, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, Indus Towers, JSW Steel, and Shriram Finance, while on the lows were Vindhya Telelinks, Solara Active Pharma Sciences, Reliance Infrastructure, Poly Medicure and Orient Cement.
Among the key bank performances, IndusInd Bank shares gained 2.5 pc, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Yes Bank, union Bank of India and AU Small Finance Bank shares gained over 1 pc. Bank of Baroda and Punjab National Bank also gained around 1 pc.
Further, the Federal Bank, IDFC First Bank, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank shares were trading in the red with marginal losses.
