Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk announces new netflix series “The Dealer”

Los Angeles, Jan 15 (UNI) LoSquid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk is gearing up for his next major project following the conclusion of the global hit survival drama.
On Wednesday, Netflix announced a new Korean casino crime drama titled ‘The Dealer’, which will be produced by Hwang Dong-hyuk. The streamer also revealed the show’s principal cast, according to Variety.
Production on the series is currently underway, with Jung So-min, Ryoo Seung-bum, and Lee Soo-hyuk leading the ensemble.
‘The Dealer’ will mark the directorial debut of acclaimed cinematographer Choi Young-hwan, known for his work on major Korean films such as Smugglers, Veteran, Tazza: The High Rollers, and The Thieves.
Hwang is producing the series under his Firstman Studio banner, the company behind Squid Game.
As reported by Variety, the series follows Geonhwa, a highly skilled casino dealer whose plans for marriage are derailed after she becomes the victim of a housing fraud.
Drawn back into a world she had once escaped, Geonhwa enters the treacherous underbelly of gambling, where she must rely on long-suppressed abilities to regain control of her life.
The screenplay has been written by Ohnooy and Lee Tae-young. Jung So-min stars as Geonhwa, a dealer who has spent years suppressing the exceptional skills that give her a distinct edge at the gaming table.
Ryoo Seung-bum plays Hwang Chisu, a financially struggling gambler who survives on risky bets and becomes entangled in Geonhwa’s dangerous plan.
Lee Soo-hyuk will be seen as Jo Jun, a formidable casino rival with sharp instincts and an enigmatic presence, while Ryu Kyung-soo portrays Geonhwa’s fiancé. Details regarding the show’s release date have yet to be announced.
