Congress attacks UPI charges, demands immediate withdrawal

Bengaluru, Sept 17 (UNI) Congress on Thursday mounted a sharp attack on the Centre over the proposed additional charges on UPI transactions, warning that making digital payments costlier would amount to penalising people for using a system the government itself had promoted. Party leaders and workers, including S Manohar, A Anand and G Prakash, opposed the proposed charges and demanded their immediate withdrawal. They argued that UPI had become an essential part of everyday transactions, particularly for small traders, employees and ordinary consumers, and questioned the rationale behind imposing an additional financial burden on digital payments.
