Lucknow, April 18 (UNI) With the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on the horizon, the Samajwadi Party is kicking off a large-scale voter enrolment drive, personally overseen by party chief Akhilesh Yadav.
The campaign aims to ensure no supporter is left off the rolls, with party workers going door-to-door to register new voters and correct existing records in a state with over 134 million names on the electoral list.
This exercise, initiated after the SIR, is considered crucial from an electoral perspective. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav will personally monitor the process from time to time.
According to sources here on Saturday, the party's goal is to ensure that no supporting voter is left out of the voting process. To this end, party workers will go door-to-door to not only register new voters but also remove incorrect or irrelevant names from the list.
The party leadership has issued clear instructions to all BLAs (Booth Level Agents) and booth committees in this regard. The focus will be on booths where the SP is considered to have a strong position.
A team of 10-12 workers has been formed at each booth, tasked with conducting door-to-door surveys to ensure that no eligible voter is left out.
The final voter list released by the Election Commission after the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process includes the names of approximately 134 million voters.
However, during this process, approximately 20.4 million voters in the state were removed from the list, prompting political parties to become active.
According to party sources, there are an average of 900 to 1200 voters per booth. Therefore, if a worker reaches even 100 households, it is possible to identify a large number of voters who have missed or incorrect entries. The Samajwadi Party has deployed its BLEs at 160,000 of the 162,000 booths in the state.
To ensure an effective campaign, senior party leaders, potential candidates, and former MPs and MLAs will also be deployed. These instructions have been issued by the party's national president, Akhilesh Yadav.
A senior party official stated, "Not only BLAs and booth-level committees, but senior party leaders, potential candidates, and former MPs and MLAs will also be involved in this entire process to connect voters. National President Akhilesh Yadav has issued these instructions to all party officials."
It is noteworthy that the Samajwadi Party activated its booth-level agents as soon as the SIR process began in the state on November 4, 2025. During this period, the party also filed a large number of complaints, the impact of which can now be seen in this new campaign.
