Kerala launches official websites for all 1,200 local bodies

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 2 (UNI) Official websites have been launched for all 1,200 local self-government institutions in Kerala, providing citizens with access to information on local administration and digital services, besides introducing a QR code-based system for recording feedback on the quality of services and facilities at their offices.

The websites have been launched for all 941 gram panchayats, 152 block panchayats, 14 district panchayats, 87 municipalities and six municipal corporations in the State. The initiative would bring local self-government institutions and the public closer and facilitate democratic interaction through modern technology, Satheesan said. The websites will carry the profile of each institution, administrative information, details of elected representatives and officials, citizen services, development projects, budget, decisions, notices, reports, tenders and other information of public interest.

They will also provide a platform to showcase the history, culture, heritage, tourism potential, natural resources, development activities and achievements of each locality. Citizens will be able to access digital services directly through the websites. Integration with government digital platforms, including K-SMART, will facilitate access to certificates, property tax, building-related services, licences, payments, applications and grievance redressal services.

The QR code-based feedback facility will enable citizens to participate constructively in local governance by sharing their experience of services at local body offices, the Chief Minister said. Citizens can scan the QR code displayed at the front offices of local self-government institutions using their mobile phones and record their experience and feedback. The feedback can cover the behaviour and cooperation of employees, availability of information and guidance regarding services, procedures and waiting time for obtaining services, cleanliness of waiting areas and toilets, availability of seating facilities, and the availability and accessibility of essential facilities such as forms, stationery and internet at facilitation centres.

The grading of local self-government institutions based on citizen feedback will be made available to the public through their respective websites. Chief Minister V D Satheesan inaugurated the websites and the citizen feedback system, implemented as part of the State Government's 100-day action programme, at a function held at his chamber here on Thursday. Local Self-Government Minister K M Shaji was present. Local Self-Government Department Secretary T V Anupama, Special Secretary S Shanavas, Principal Director Divya S Iyer and Director (Rural) Apoorva Tripathi, among others, attended the function.
