Hyderabad hospital transplants liver into six-week-old baby weighing 2.9 kg

Hyderabad, Oct 10 (UNI) Doctors at a Hospital in Hyderabad have successfully performed a living-donor liver transplant on a six-week-old baby weighing 2.9 kg, with the hospital describing the infant as the smallest patient in South India to undergo the procedure. The baby, who developed rapidly worsening liver failure due to a rare condition called Gestational Alloimmune Liver Disease (GALD), received a 62-gram liver graft donated by his mother and was discharged after a complicated recovery, the hospital said in a statement on Saturday.
