Slight improvement in the night temperatures in Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 14 (UNI) Despite several places in Kashmir recording sub-zero temperatures, there was a slight improvement in the night temperatures across the region, officials said on Friday.

According to the Meteorological Department, Srinagar city recorded a minimum of minus 1.3°C, an increase of over a notch from previous night. On the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday Srinagar had recorded a minimum temperature of -2.4°C.
Except for the tourist resort of Pahalgam in Anantnag, which continued to experience colder conditions, all other weather stations in the Valley witnessed an increase in night temperatures.
In Pahalgam, the mercury settled at a low of -4.5 degrees Celsius, down from the previous night’s -3.6 degrees Celsius, MeT said.
The ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district recorded a low of -3.6°C, up from the previous night’s -7.5 degrees Celsius.
According to the Meteorological Department, the weather in Jammu and Kashmir is expected to remain generally dry till February 15,
A change in weather conditions is likely from February 16, with partly to generally cloudy skies and light rain or snow at isolated places, mainly towards the evening or night.
Between February 17 and 18, brief spells of light rain or snow may occur at isolated locations, though no significant weather activity is expected until February 18.
MeT said a fresh spell of light rain or snow is predicted at scattered places on February 19 and 20, followed by partly cloudy conditions with the possibility of light precipitation at isolated spots on February 21 and 22.
This winter, Kashmir has witnessed above-normal temperatures along with a significant snowfall deficit.
